Publishers including Michael O’Mara Books, Hachette and Hardie Grant have donated more than 30,000 books between them to The Childhood Trust, a charity that aims to reduce the impact of poverty on children and young people in London.
The charity estimates that 40% of children in London are currently living in poverty and that they will be hit the hardest by the cost-of-living crisis, with many experiencing hunger, cold and anxiety about the future.
Lesley O’Mara, managing director of Michael O’Mara Books and trustee of The Childhood Trust, said: “It is my pleasure to make this donation, and sincere thanks to both Hachette and Hardie Grant for their hugely generous contributions.
“These books will go straight into the hands of children, many of whom do not own a single book, and will hopefully go a small way to help them have a happier Christmas.”
