Puffin has revealed three new appointments and seven promotions in the editorial teams to “continue to drive growth and create market-leading publishing across categories for new generations”.
Linas Alsenas joins as editorial director from Scholastic where he has published Simon James Green, Michael Morpurgo, Vashti Hardy and M G Leonard.
Additionally Amina Youssef will join as editorial director from Simon & Schuster UK where she published Adam Silvera, Lauren Roberts, Tọlá Okogwu and Katie & Kevin Tsang.
Eleanor Farmer will also be joining the Puffin preschool team as editorial director to “accelerate growth in this all-important and now largest value area of the children’s market,” Puffin said.
Also in the Puffin pre-school team, Ygraine Cadlock has been promoted to publisher across classic brands and Andrea MacDonald has also been promoted to publisher for picture books. Both Cadlock and MacDonald will continue to report to Anna Barnes Robinson, publisher Puffin pre-school.
Olivia Edwards is promoted to editorial director after helping to grow frontlist sales including brands such as the Greg the Sausage Roll and “will be looking to acquire more in this commercial and character-driven area,” the publisher said.
Puffin said it will continue to grow its non-fiction across all age groups and to accelerate this growth has made two promotions in the non-fiction team with Phoebe Jascourt and Tom Rawlinson both stepping up to senior commissioning editor.
Both continue to report to Ruth Knowles, publishing director for Puffin six-plus fiction, non-fiction and licensing.
Also in the six-plus team, Carmen McCullough is promoted to publisher “in recognition of her excellent acquisition skills” and India Chambers, who has been working with Robin Stevens and up-and-coming YA author Kat Delacorte as well as supporting on Tom Fletcher, is promoted to editor.
Puffin said the changes in the editorial team will “continue to drive growth and create market-leading publishing across categories for new generations”.
Amanda Punter, Puffin publishing director, said: “We are delighted to have made these crucial new appointments and brilliantly well-deserved promotions. This will allow us to further broaden Puffin’s portfolio of publishing and deepen our presence in key market categories, building on those areas where we already have a strong track record, like picture books and fiction, and accelerating growth in newer areas of opportunity such as non-fiction and graphic novels."
Punter added: “Under Ruth Knowles’s excellent stewardship of the six-plus fiction, licensing and non-fiction list, and Anna Barnes Robinson’s leadership of our preschool publishing, Puffin has enjoyed a recent raft of TCM success, demonstrating the enormous strength and breadth of the list and the skill and expertise of our editorial and publishing teams.
“As well as, of course, our incredible roster of authors and illustrators, whose work it is our absolute privilege to bring to children and families everywhere and to create more readers of the future.”
