Quadrille has set out its new shape and growth plans as part of Penguin Random House UK with four new “Quadrants” known as Taste, Create, Now and Life.
The business, formerly known as Hardie Grant UK, was acquired by Penguin Random House UK from its Australian parent group last October and subsequently operated as two distinct imprints – Hardie Grant and Quadrille.
Now all new titles will be published as Quadrille going forward, with the publisher’s internal structure moving into four new category-led publishing homes.
“The Quadrille Quadrants – Taste, Create, Now and Life – bring together books, authors and in-house teams across editorial, publicity and marketing,” PRH UK said.
Sarah Lavelle, Quadrille managing director, said: “This is the perfect moment to rebrand and reinforce Quadrille as a leader in illustrated lifestyle publishing for a global audience. Across the lists we have always had distinctive, beautiful books, expert authors, and a wealth of publishing talent – the quadrants bring them together within a single, clear identity.
“The heart, style and spirit of what we publish will not change but the new structure will deepen the teams’ expertise and focus, giving the list more power and impact.”
The largest Quadrant will be Quadrille Taste, encompassing all the publisher’s food and drink authors and titles. Taste will be led by Lavelle, together with publishing director Kajal Mistry (currently on parental leave, with her role being covered by Judith Hannam) and newly promoted editorial director Sophie Allen. Taste will span design-led books for a global audience, with authors including Theo Randall, Romy Gill, José Pizarro, John Torode and Lisa Faulkner.
Quadrille Create, led by editorial director Harriet Butt, will bring together craft, hobbies and creativity books, from authors and brands including The Great British Sewing Bee, 365 Days of Art and Tilly and the Buttons.
Quadrille Now will be a trend-focused gift list, focusing on pop culture and inspiration, “creating stunning design-led gift books", PRH UK said. It will be led by publishing director Kate Pollard, who returned to the company last year after a stint at Welbeck.
Pollard will also lead Quadrille Life, which will encompass Interiors, Fashion, Health and Wellbeing, Travel, and Home and Garden.
Quadrille will continue to publish on an international co-editions model, with US sales and distribution through Chronicle Books. UK distribution continues to be through MDL.
Under a reciprocal agreement with Hardie Grant Australia, the Quadrille list is represented in Australia and New Zealand by Hardie Grant and the Quadrille UK team represents titles from Hardie Grant Australia and North America.
In the PRH UK group structure, Quadrille is overseen by Joel Rickett, m.d. of Ebury and Quadrille; but will continue to have full creative independence, with its editorial, design, marketing and publicity teams all remaining dedicated to Quadrille.
Group teams including sales, rights, production and finance now report into group functions at PRH UK, but retain their focus on the Quadrille list. The Quadrille team will move into the PRH UK offices at Embassy Gardens in Nine Elms later this year.
