The Quarto Group has appointed Karine Marko as managing director, stepping up from her role as group foreign rights director. She will take up the position from 1st January 2025. Marko will be responsible for leading all Quarto’s divisions, and she will report directly to CK Lau, group CEO and CEO of Quarto US.
Her new role follows the departure of CEO Alison Goff, who is stepping down for personal reasons at the end of the month.
Marko has spent the past 26 years at Quarto, starting in the foreign rights department as rights executive, before becoming group foreign rights director in 2013. During her tenure, she has worked across all Quarto imprints and multiple markets. Recently, she added the responsibility for business development to her role and, in autumn 2022, brokered a global deal with McDonald’s Happy Meal Readers programme and the Little People, BIG DREAMS series by Maria Isabel Sánchez Vegara. The programme has delivered more than 50 million bespoke Little People, BIG DREAMS Happy Meal Readers to readers in more than 100 countries.

In parallel, Peter Marley, currently publisher for Frances Lincoln Children’s Books and Ivy Kids Eco, has been promoted to associate group publishing director, children’s, replacing Shannon Cullen, who left Quarto in October 2024. Marley will take up his new role on 1st January 2025 and will report to Marko.
A new publisher for Frances Lincoln Children’s Books and Ivy Kids Eco will be appointed in the new year.
