Quercus has unveiled the UK press tour and “unmissable publicity and marketing campaign” for Emily Ratajkowski’s debut My Body.
The author and actress will be in London for a series of high-profile events and top-line broadcast interviews at the end of November. She will be interviewed by founder Jude Kelly as a WOW Shameless Festival headliner, meeting fans at a public signing at Waterstones Gower Street, and will be interviewed by Pandora Sykes for a How To Academy event at the Emmanuel Centre. Her essay collection was acquired by Quercus in October 2020 and is published today (9th November).
“The publicity campaign aims to set the news agenda and spark an empowering and bold conversation on feminism, showcasing the book as a feminist literary debut across the highest profile and widest-circulating broadcast, print, online and social media outlets,” Quercus said, dubbing it “an unmissable publicity and marketing campaign”. My Body will be featured in numerous magazines and newspapers as well as on BBC “Newsnight”, BBC Radio 4 “Woman’s Hour” and BBC Radio 5 Live, as well as on podcasts such as “Table Manners” with Jessie Ware.
The publisher said: “The marketing campaign features high-impact and interactive outdoor advertising in carefully selected UK sites, including two hero sites in London with mirrored panels. Quercus partnered with stationery brand Papier and worked closely with independent bookshop BookBar. On publication, an extensive influencer marketing campaign will launch, sparking intrigue and conversation among consumers. Far-reaching digital and social advertising targets the core demographic of the book, highlighting the key messages from Emily’s essays and stand-out endorsements from Lisa Taddeo, Emma Gannon, Lena Dunham and Amy Schumer, among countless press outlets.”
My Body is billed by Quercus as ”a profoundly personal exploration of feminism, sexuality and power, of men’s treatment of women and women’s rationalisations for accepting that treatment". The publisher added: "Her essays chronicle moments from Emily Ratajkowski’s life while investigating the culture’s fetishisation of women and female beauty, its obsession with and contempt for women’s sexuality, the perverse dynamics of the fashion and film industries, and the grey area between consent and abuse."
