Quercus has acquired three new novels in Philip Kerr's historical noir series featuring Detective Bernie Gunther.
The publisher acquired UK and Commonwealth rights to three new books by Kerr from Caradoc King at United Agents.
The first book in the deal, Metropolis, will be published in spring 2019. It is the 14th thriller in the series and takes Kerr's hero back to the dying days of the Weimar Republic just before Hitler came to power.
The Bernie Gunther books have sold 260,238 print copies in the UK, with the biggest seller being sixth in the series, If the Dead Rise, with 38,300 copies sold, according to Nielsen. A Bernie Gunther mini-series is in development at HBO with Tom Hanks as executive producer.
Quercus designed a new livery for this year's paperback of Prussian Blue, and in 2018 the entire Bernie Gunther backlist will be reissued in the same new look.
