Granta editorial director Anne Meadows, writer Huma Qureshi and Aitken Alexander agent Chris Wellbelove will be judging this year’s £1,000 Brick Lane Bookshop Short Story Prize.
Qureshi pictured above was previously shortlisted for the competition in 2020. Brick Lane bookseller Kate Ellis said: "It’s a pleasing circle to have her on the judging panel in 2022, and a great illustration of what the competition set out to do: discover and promote new, exciting and diverse voices in short fiction."
The prize was set up in 2019 and aims to discover new exciting and diverse voices in fiction, celebrating the short story form as well as the resilience of independent booksellers. The competition is run and funded by Brick Lane Bookshop in London and is now open for submissions.
It is open to all UK residents for original short stories between 1,000 and 5,000 words. Organisers said they’re looking for "new, exciting and diverse voices in short fiction".
The longlisted stories will be published in an anthology in autumn 2022.
