Rachel Winterbottom is set to join Transworld, an imprint of Penguin Random House, in a newly-created role as sci-fi and fantasy publishing director. Winterbottom will lead science fiction and fantasy publishing and develop and grow a "best-in-class" list, which Transworld described as "a significant strategic pillar in growth for the company".
Winterbottom will join Transworld in March 2025, and report temporarily directly into managing director, Kimberley Young.
She moves from HarperVoyager, where she was responsible for bestsellers Faebound by Saara El-Arifi and Sunbringer by Hannah Kaner but also the BookTok favourite, When the Moon Hatched by Sarah A Parker. She also previously worked at Gollancz, where she published author Leigh Bardugo.

Transworld’s recent and forthcoming publications include The Coven by Harper L Woods, The Half King by Melissa Landers and Water Moon by Samantha Sotto Yambao.
Winterbottom said: "While it will be bittersweet to say goodbye to the brilliantly talented colleagues and authors at HarperVoyager and Magpie Books, I’m beyond thrilled to be joining Transworld. With an outstanding reputation for publishing bold, game-changing and much-loved stories, it’s the perfect home to start an exciting new chapter."
Young said: "Rachel brings with her a magical combination of a deep passion for the SFF genre and a genuine excitement and instinct for what is next. Her vision is going to be instrumental in building what is next for the genre – watch this space."
