Random House gets four nods for Wellcome Trust Book Prize

Random House has four titles on the six-strong Wellcome Trust Book Prize shortlist, with two books each given the nod from imprints Jonathan Cape and Chatto & Windus across the non-fiction and fiction lists.

Shortlisted for the £25,000 prize, which is open to works of fiction and non-fiction centred around medicine, are Our Lady of Alice Bhatti by Mohammed Hanif, The Train in the Night by Nick Coleman (both Jonathan Cape); Merivel: A Man of His Time by Rose Tremain and Circulation by Thomas Wright (both Chatto & Windus); Perfect People by Peter James (Pan Macmillan); and The Hour Between Dog and Wolf (Fourth Estate).

Chair of judges Mark Lawson said: "I am particularly pleased that the six books we have shortlisted cover such a wide range: biography, argument, memoir, thriller and literary fiction. The historical spread is also large—from the 17th century to the 21st. These are books which will give enjoyment and education and provoke thought."

The winner will be announced at an awards reception at the Wellcome Collection, London, on 7th November.
