The publishers behind Reading Europe – an initiative created to give a “cultural dimension” to the EU Referendum Campaign – are to host a tribute to Arcadia Books founder, Gary Pulsifer, on 22nd June.
Pulsifer died on 25th March after a battle with cancer.
The Reading Europe initiative was developed to provide an opportunity to "find out something more about fellow memembers and neighbours" of the European Union ahead of the referendum on 23rd June. The 49 recommended titles have been selected to let the reader better understand the literature, history and culture of each the 24 countries in the EU and the four in the British Isles.
Pulsifer acted as an advisor to Reading Europe and the promotion includes six of the books he published while at Arcadia.
The tribute event will feature readings by Amanda Hopkinson, Boyd Tonkin, Karen Sullivan and Sian Williams, from books translated from Dutch, French, Hungarian and Latvian included in the promotion and published by Pulsifer.
The titles published by Arcadia are Rough Trade by Dominique Manotti, translated by Margaret Crossland and Elfreda Powell, The Transylvanian Trilogy by Miklós Bánffy, translated by Patrick Thursfield and Katalina Banffy-Jelen, Flesh-Coloured Dominoes by Zigmunds Skujins, translated by Kaija Straumanis, and The Twins by Tessa de Loo, translated by Ruth Levitt.
Tickets are £5 and all money raised will be donated to the Book Trade Charity which provided a home for Pulsifer at The Retreat in Kings Langley.
