Reading Force has been awarded £230,000 to extend its reading programme to every service family in the UK during 2013-15.
The grant was given by Armed Forces Covenant LIBOR Fund. The aim of the reading programme is to improve communication within families through fun and shared activity and alleviate some of the stress felt by service families caused by deployment and frequent changes in school.
A spokesperson for Reading Force said: “Participating families choose and read a book together, talk about it, then fill the scrapbook with their thoughts about the book, and reflections on the experience of sharing a book. Families can read any book from a picture book to a young adult book to an adult novel to a biography.”
Every service family will now be able to participate in the scheme during 2013-15 after the £230,000 grant was awarded.
It is free to take part and open to all ages and generations.
