Gillian Redfearn has been promoted to publishing director of Orion imprint Gollancz, with Jon Wood expanding his role to become imprint managing director.
Redfearn [pictured], who became deputy publishing director in 2013, takes on her new role with immediate effect and also joins the general division executive.
Associate publisher Simon Spanton, digital publisher Darren Nash, editor Marcus Gipps and editorial manager Charlie Panayiotou will report to Redfearn, while editorial assistant Emily Lunn will continue to report to Nash.
Redfearn said: “Gollancz is a rich and diverse list, characterised by its heritage, its superb authors and its commercial success. It’s an honour to work with so many talented and passionate people, and that Orion trusts me to work with this amazing team, to bring out the very best of our publishing in 2014 and beyond.”
Redfearn will report to Wood, who becomes managing director of Gollancz in addition to his roles as deputy group publisher and editor for authors including Ian Rankin, Harlan Coben and Kate Mosse.
Wood said: "Gillian has already made an enormous contribution to the Gollancz team in the short time she has been my deputy. Her vision for the list – both in terms of strategy and organisation – has already been felt throughout the company and this change will put her front-and-centre in our mission to make Gollancz the leading publisher of science-fiction and fantasy in the UK and abroad.”
Malcolm Edwards, deputy c.e.o. and publisher of the Orion Group, said: “Gollancz is one of the most prestigious genre imprints in the world, and the entire team is dedicated to innovative, commercial and award-winning publishing.
“We’re confident that this new structure will allow Gollancz to capitalise on its exceptional legacy, while exploring new opportunities.”
