The inaugural SE London BookFest has announced 30 events with featured bookstores including Morroco Bound and the Review Bookshop and headliners such as Emma Barnett and Caleb Azumah Nelson.
The event will take place across Peckham and Camberwell throughout November with headliners including Barnett, Azumah Nelson, Freya Bromley, Laura Dockrill, Shani Akilah, Aliya Ali–Afzal, Jimi Famurewa and Kenny Imafidon.
With plans for SE London BookFest to be an annual event, it is coordinated by the team behind Peculiar Publications, which publishes several newspapers in the local area including the Peckham Peculiar.
Co-founder Mark McGinlay, who has has worked in the book trade for more than 30 years, told The Bookseller: "There should be around 30 authors taking part so a month’s worth of events. Bookshops taking part include: Morocco Bound [in Bermondsey], Review Bookshop [in Peckham], Rye Books and Chener Books [in Dulwich]." Other confirmed venues include St Giles’ Church in Camberwell, Peckham Levels and the Peckhamplex cinema.
The festival is still raising funds but will give any surplus back to the community. "We’re still looking for another £5,000 to cover costs," McGinlay added. "Once all running costs are covered, money raised will go to local food banks as we’re a non-profit organisation."
