Lucy Richardson has been appointed to the newly created role of publicity director of Bonnier Books UK’s Black & White Publishing Group, starting on Monday 31st July.
Richardson will be working across all imprints within the Black & White Publishing Group, which includes lifestyle non-fiction as well as commercial and literary fiction imprints based in London and Edinburgh. She will also cover Dublin-based imprint Eriu alongside music imprint Nine Eight, business and smart-thinking imprint Heligo Books and narrative non-fiction imprint Ithaka Press. She will report to Francesca Russell, trade publicity director.
Richardson began her career at Orion and Scholastic, before moving to HQ on its creation as a new division of HarperCollins in 2016. Throughout her time at HQ, she helped build the publicity department to a team of eight, championed the creation of new imprints, and directed campaigns across fiction and non-fiction.
She has received two PPC Annual Awards for her publicity campaigns for Charly Cox’s poetry collection She Must Be Mad and Suzanne Mulholland’s cookery book The Batch Lady, and has delivered campaigns for titles including Claudia Winkleman’s Quite, Georgina Moore’s debut novel The Garnett Girls and the Book of the Year at The British Book Awards 2023, Menopausing by Davina McCall and Dr Naomi Potter.
Richardson said: “I’m thrilled to be joining the Black & White Publishing Group at such an exciting time of growth. I’ve admired their impressive lists of fiction and non-fiction from afar and can’t wait to join the team as PR director and to be a part of shaping their future successes. While I’ve had many happy years at HQ and will miss my colleagues and authors enormously, leading publicity campaigns across Black & White Publishing Group’s brilliant titles is an opportunity I couldn’t pass up.”
Russell, recently promoted to trade publicity director, commented: “We are delighted to have Lucy join our team. She is hugely experienced in delivering excellent campaign work, managing a team, as well as cultivating integration and growth. I can’t wait to see the creative ideas, brand focus and strategy that Lucy will bring to Black & White.”
