The Little, Brown Book Group’s Robinson imprint is celebrating its 40th birthday with a new prize for under-represented experts and promotions within its editorial team.
Emma Smith is promoted to publishing director, Robinson, and Tom Asker is promoted to editorial director, Robinson (How To) and Piatkus Non-Fiction, with immediate effect.
Zoe Bohm, executive publisher of the Piatkus, Constable and Robinson publishing division, said: “Since joining the Robinson team in 2022, Emma has impressed us all with the launch of an incredibly exciting narrative non-fiction list and her ambitious vision for the future of the imprint as a whole. The Patchwork Family, Emma’s first publication for Robinson, was an instant Sunday Times bestseller and she has made a raft of eye-catching acquisitions, including lead titles The Piano Player of Budapest and Three Dads Walking, among many others. Emma will take on strategic responsibility for the Robinson imprint, working closely with Andrew McAleer and Tom Asker on the Robinson Psychology and How To lists to drive future growth.”
She added: “Tom has been doing an outstanding job running Robinson’s How To list and frontlist sales have more than doubled since he took over in 2019. Alongside his expert publishing for Piatkus Non-Fiction, including the recent runaway success Order Out of Chaos by Scott Walker, he has continued to add a host of exciting titles to the How To list – from cookery stars to dog training – taking great care to sustain its rich backlist, as demonstrated by the phenomenal sales of The Air-Fryer Cookbook."
Andrew McAleer continues to steer the Robinson Psychology list. He will launch the New Voices Award in 2024 with the aim of amplifying the work of under-represented experts in the field of psychology.
Smith said: “As Robinson celebrates its longevity and future in this landmark 40th year, I’m very pleased to be working with such a stellar team. Along with our incredible backlist and heritage, the imprint has renewed focus and commercial vision, and we are embracing our ‘do, think, feel’ ethos. We are a home for talent, expertise and entertainment and have a superb publishing programme ahead, including Kat Brown’s It’s Not a Bloody Trend, The Authentic Ukrainian Kitchen from top chef Ievgen Klopotenko, Adam Spivey’s How to Train Your Dog and the One Life film tie-in.”
