Sophie Robinson will join Tor as editorial director, moving from Titan Books, while Lydia Gittins has joined the imprint as publicity manager.
At Titan, Robinson’s list included bestsellers and award successes such as The Times SF/F Book of the Year and Dagger Award finalists. In her new position, Robinson will continue to grow Tor’s speculative fiction list, working closely with colleagues at Tor US. She will take up her role at the end of May.
Gittins was also previously at Titan, and brings with her considerable experience of working with “global genre giants” as well as helping to build new talent. She will work on building the profile and sales of all Tor authors, from débuts to established brand names.
According to the publisher, these two appointments are significant additions to the Tor UK team which, under publisher Bella Pagan, has nearly tripled its revenue in four years, with 2022 being a standout year for sales. This year, Tor will publish a host of authors including Jennifer Armentrout, Olivie Blake, Travis Baldree, T J Klune and Cassandra Clare.
Pagan said: “Sophie and Lydia will play vital roles in bringing readers speculative fiction books that spark joy. We will maintain the very highest standards of author care as we deliver our ambitious plans for growth and Sophie and Lydia will be fundamental to this vision. I am looking forward enormously to working with them, and publishing more amazing authors and books, as we enter this exciting new phase of expansion.”
Lucy Hale, publisher of Pan, added: “What Bella has already achieved at Tor is remarkable but I know she agrees with me when I say it’s just the start of her – and Pan Macmillan’s – plans. I am delighted that we have been able to appoint two talented new members to the team who share Bella’s vision for the imprint and who will play a crucial part in delivering our growth strategy.”
