Baskerville’s sales of Mick Herron books across all formats in the UK and export have passed the two million copies sold mark, according to the publisher.
One million of those sales were achieved in the past two years, the imprint of John Murray Press said. Nielsen UK Total Consumer Market sales show the number of Herron books sold in the UK in print totals 653,382 as of the time of writing, for £5.27m.
Herron’s new standalone novel, The Secret Hours, will be published on 14th September 2023. Baskerville will be publishing an exclusive signed edition with Waterstones. The Waterstones edition will include a brand new essay by Herron. An exclusive signed independent bookshop edition will also be available featuring a letter from Herron to readers on the importance of independent bookshops.
Herron’s Slough House thrillers have been adapted into an Apple TV+ series entitled “Slow Horses”. With two series already aired, a third is due to be released later this year, and a fourth series already greenlit. The show was recently shortlisted for five BAFTAs including Gary Oldman for leading actor.
Yassine Belkacemi, editorial director at John Murray Press, said: “To see sales of Mick Herron’s books pass this landmark is a result of years of ardent bookseller and bookshop support and passionate word of mouth from his readers. The acceleration of these sales in the past couple of years has been fantastic to see and what is exciting is how much more we have planned for Mick. But we’d be nowhere without the wonderful books that Mick continues to write and delight us with, that the team at Baskerville has the immense pleasure of publishing, selling, marketing and publicising.”
