Unbound has reported its trade sales grew year on year in both the UK and US by 31% and 51% respectively during 1st January to 31st July 2021.
The independent publisher, which crowdfunds for all its titles, recorded its highest ever revenue month of £600,000 in May this year with 80% of revenue coming from crowdfunding alone. Unbound said its crowdfunding success rate was also at a record 73% across the year.
It comes after trade sales in 2020 also grew across print and e-books by 58% year on year, which the publisher said broke records. Unbound has not broken out full figures for its financial results.
The press celebrates its 10th birthday this year, and has established a trade presence in the US through Consortium Books Sales & Distribution. This week, the publisher earned a Sunday Times bestseller spot and hit number one in the Small Publishers non-fiction chart with Glittering A Turd by Kris Hallenga.
Unbound co-founder John Mitchinson told The Bookseller: "The amazing success of Kris’ book is a marvellous way to celebrate what has been a transformative period for Unbound. Despite the pandemic, we’ve re-focused our publishing, strengthened the team, and built a burgeoning US business. Expect even more of the same as we enter our second decade match-fit and with a site bursting with new and exciting book projects."
