Sam Crisp, formerly senior commissioning editor at Ebury, has been promoted to editorial director of the food and lifestyle hubs at the non-fiction division of Penguin Books.
In her new role she will continue to commission books across both hubs, adding to a roster which already includes the Sunday Times-bestselling baker Jane Dunn, musician Yungblud and TikTok poet Isabella Dorta.
Crisp said: “I love making books for people who don’t consider themselves to be readers and reaching audiences that the industry isn’t currently serving.”
“In lifestyle I am looking for creative ideas that make people feel seen, voices that challenge the expectations of the spaces that they inhabit and relatable authors addressing everyday needs with a fresh perspective.”
She continued: “In food I am looking for authors with platforms that offer a sought-after solution or concepts that inspire people to experiment and find joy in the kitchen. My focus here is to create beautiful books that break first-time authors out beyond their existing platform.
Laura Higginson, publishing director of Ebury Lifestyle, described Crisp as “an amazing talent spotter and nurturing editor, launching exciting voices that breathe new life into perennial genres.”
Crisp also publishes zeitgeist wellbeing and gift-humour through Ebury’s Pop Press, with titles including What Would Wednesday Do?, The Healing Power of Flowers, Is Your Cat A Psychopath?, and the Lines to Live By quote books, with wisdom from icons like Taylor Swift and Ozzy Osborne.
