Sandycove has commissioned "the definitive book on Sinn Féin" by journalist Aoife Moore.
Michael McLoughlin, publisher, bought world rights for the currently untitled book from the author. It is scheduled to be released in 2023.
Sandycove said: "Opinion polls show that Sinn Féin is now the most popular political party in the Irish republic. If, as seems all but certain, the party leads the next Dublin government, it will be the culmination of over two decades of steady growth following the end of the IRA’s armed campaign. The rise of Sinn Féin, north and south, is the central phenomenon in Irish politics – yet the workings of the party are poorly understood and the true story of how it has gone about building its support has not been told.
"Aoife Moore, a Derry native who has quickly established herself as one of Ireland’s top political journalists, will explore key questions about how the party operates, its relationship to the remnants of the IRA, and the evolution of the ‘Armalite and ballot-box’ strategy in the post-Armalite era. Drawing on extensive interviews with the people who have driven the party’s strategy, and those they have left behind, this book will tell the story of why and how Sinn Féin does politics differently.
"Aoife Moore will reconstruct the pathway that has led Sinn Féin into power-sharing administrations in Northern Ireland and that may soon see party leader Mary Lou McDonald’s feet under the Taoiseach's desk in Government Buildings in Dublin."
Moore is an award-winning political correspondent with the Irish Examiner newspaper, based in Dublin. She was born in Derry and grew up during the peace process. Last year, she helped break the "Golfgate" story, which led to high-profile political resignations and threw the Supreme Court into turmoil.
