Sara Collins, Kate Atkinson and Robert Harris are among the authors set to appear on the Penguin Podcast, which returns with a revamped format and a new host.
Twelve 35-minute episodes will be published weekly until December and will be produced by Penguin’s partner Storyglass. The series will be recorded at Penguin’s in-house studios and will cover a range of topics, including writing your own book and advice on how to get published. The format is inspired by the popular "Ask Penguin" format on the publishers’ social media channels.
Each episode will feature a conversation with a Penguin author, offering listeners the chance to hear personal insights on their books, writing processes and experiences within the publishing world. The first episode will feature Collins, author of the Costa Book Award-winning novel The Confessions of Frannie Langton, who will be discussing her experience of acting as a judge for this year’s Booker Prize.
Authors set to appear this season include: Atkinson, best known for her Jackson Brodie novels; Fatherland writer Harris; Zeinab Badawi, author of An African History of Africa; and Second World War historian James Holland. The podcast will also take listeners on a journey inside Penguin to meet the people behind the books, sharing industry expertise from colleagues across the business. Penguin colleagues featured will include Simon Prosser, publishing director at Hamish Hamilton, and Alison Barrow, PR director at Transworld.
BBC film and TV critic Rhianna Dhillon has been named as the new host of the podcast.
She said: “I am absolutely thrilled to be the new host of the Penguin Podcast! I love that by getting listeners to Ask Penguin all their burning publishing and book questions, we’re bridging the gap between writers and readers, and lifting the curtain on the world of publishing thanks to the talented team at Penguin.”
Dhillon added: “Apart from an ever-growing book list, I’m also so excited that we get to speak to some truly brilliant authors who have helped to shape the world with their narratives. For me this really is a dream come true.”
Rebecca Sinclair, chief brand officer at Penguin, said: “We hope that the relaunched Penguin Podcast will strengthen our connection with our readers and shine a light on the craft behind the books as well as the talented people at Penguin. We’re excited to help our readers discover the best books for them, and to continue to spotlight our author talent.”
