Sara Helen Binney has joined Bloomsbury’s Raven Books as a managing editor.
She joined the literary crime and thriller imprint last month in the newly created role. Previously she was a research associate at the University of East Anglia, which she combined with her role as editor and co-director for indie press Seam Editions.
Binney will commission two to three titles a year at Raven Books, working alongside editorial director Alison Hennessey on structural edits, attending relevant events and working on the wider social media strategy and on branding opportunities.
Raven was launched by Bloomsbury Publishing in January 2017, for those who enjoy books "with a touch of the dark side”, bringing over Hennessey from Harvill Secker. One of Hennessey's first acquisitions, The Silent Companions by Laura Purcell, which has been credited with helping to re-ignite enthusiasm in horror fiction while The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton which has garnered a number of prizes including last year’s Costa First Novel Award. Last January saw the imprint’s largest marketing campaign to date for The Flower Girls by Alice Clark-Platts.
