Sathnam Sanghera, Megan Hunter and the Secret Barrister presented their upcoming books at the 2025 Picador Showcase last night (24th March).
The annual event was held at Underbelly Boulevard in Soho last night with Mary Mount, Picador publisher, introducing the event, which was hosted by the Scottish writer Jackie Kay.
There were several sessions on forthcoming non-fiction titles. Sanghera introduced his next work of non-fiction, Tonight the Music Seems So Loud: The Meaning of George Michael (due to be published in June 2026), “which portrays the extraordinary life, and times, of one of Britain’s most beloved musical icons”, Picador said.
Molly Jong-Fast spoke on screen about How To Lose Your Mother (26th June 2025). “A brutally funny, raw and heartbreaking memoir about losing a mother you never really had, through the lens of a daughter who grew up with a very famous woman, the feminist writer Erica Jong,” Picador said.
Film critic Mark Kermode and author Jenny Nelson spoke to Picador senior communications executive Kieran Sangha about Surround Sound: The Stories of Movie Music (11th September 2025), pitched by Picador as “a deep dive into the world of film music and the extraordinary stories behind the score”.

There were also offerings from the poetry world: Brian Bilston gave a reading from his upcoming collection, How to Lay an Egg with a Horse Inside: An Alternative Guide to Writing and Enjoying Poetry (April 2026). Fellow poet Karen Solie read from her latest collection Wellwater (24th April 2025), which explores culture in crisis and a natural world on the brink.
Actor Stephanie Racine read from Hunter’s latest novel, Days of Light (17th April 2025) about a life-changing tragedy and a country on the eve of war, and Emma Stonex, author of The Lamplighters, was interviewed by her editor, publishing director Sophie Jonathan, and read from her forthcoming second novel, The Sunshine Man (1st May 2025).
The Secret Barrister, writing as SJ Fleet, recorded an exclusive introduction to the first novel in their exciting new crime fiction series, The Cut Throat Trial (28th August 2025).
