Jenny Savill and Doug Wallace are stepping up to become managing directors of Andrew Nurnberg Associates (ANA) and its international wing respectively, with the agency's founder and current m.d. now concentrating on representing clients.
Nurnberg, who set up the agency in 1977 and had been its m.d. until today's announcement, will continue to guide his employees as chairman of the board alongside representing authors.
The appointments are part of a raft of changes at the agency, which see a new management committee for ANA in London, comprising senior agents Sabine Pfannenstiel, Barbara Barbieri, Marei Pittner and Michael Dean, as well as head of finance Siobhan Kelly and Wallace, who have taken on key areas of responsibility for the London agency and will help shape its future development, led by Savill.
Sarah Nundy is stepping back from her role as deputy managing director after 43 years but will remain an executive director, overseeing the management transition at ANA London.
Nurnberg said: “In Jenny and Doug we have found two exceptional leaders who each bring their own strengths and ideas to the business.
“Jenny has worked at the agency for 20 years, in which time she has developed a superb roster of clients, has contributed to the strategic direction of the agency from her position on the board, and is admired by team members, authors and external partners alike.
“Doug [pictured, right] has worked at the agency for five years and has done a remarkable job of managing our nine international offices, building lasting relationships with our international partners and clients, and finding countless ways to improve and expand the business.”
In other changes, Juliana Galvis, Lucy Flynn and Michael Dean are promoted to senior agent. Rory Clarke is promoted to agent, while Oliver Platt is made senior financial assistant and Luke Williamson becomes royalties analyst.
Savill said: “At ANA, making books travel is as important as getting them off the ground, enabling authors’ voices to be heard not just in their own country but around the world. I’m so thankful for Andrew’s guidance over the years—and that of Sarah Nundy—and look forward to leading our brilliant team at ANA London into this exciting next chapter for the company.”
Wallace, who now becomes m.d. of ANA International, added: “ANA is an outstanding agency and Andrew’s passion for literary translation has made this a dream job for me. Our truly exceptional colleagues around the world will no doubt be seeing even more of Andrew in the coming years as he has more time to travel.”
In late 2022, the agency will relocate from its rented offices in Clerkenwell to a new, permanent home at 43 Great Russell Street in Bloomsbury. A grade II-listed building on the corner of Coptic Street, which faces the British Museum, the new premises is currently undergoing refurbishment ahead of the move.
