Sceptre, the literary imprint of Hodder & Stoughton, has made two promotions in the editorial team.
Charlotte Humphery, currently senior commissioning editor, has been promoted to editorial director, with a focus on refining and rethinking Sceptre’s non-fiction offering.
Humphery joined Sceptre from Chatto in 2022 and has played “a key role in acquiring and publishing agenda-setting and prize-winning non-fiction" the publisher said, including Fire Weather by John Vaillant (winner of the Baillie Gifford Prize 2024) and Monsters by Claire Dederer. In her new role, Humphery will continue to spearhead Sceptre’s non-fiction publishing and be in charge of its strategy going forward.
Holly Knox, currently editorial assistant, has been promoted to assistant editor. Having joined from Oneworld in 2022, they have been “a vital member of the Sceptre team”, working on some of the imprint’s biggest forthcoming titles, including David Nicholls’ You Are Here and Kaliane Bradley’s The Ministry of Time.
Federico Andornino, executive publisher, said: “Last year was a year of profound change at Sceptre and both Charlotte and Holly played a major role in helping transform and refresh the imprint. Charlotte is a fiercely intelligent commissioner and a dedicated publisher and I look forward to seeing her thrive in this new role. Holly is an invaluable member of the team and this promotion recognises their tireless contribution to the business. I am very proud of both of them and grateful that I get to work with them every day.”
