The UK arm of Scholastic has bought school books suppliers MBE Books and Laburnum House for an undisclosed sum.
Scholastic bought the businesses from current owner Jeremy Stallman after the deal was brokered by Natalina Bertoli from Bertoli Mitchell.
Catherine Bell, co-group m.d. of Scholastic UK, said: “Laburnum House Educational and MBE Books are impressive businesses providing the very best levels of service and expertise to schools. Their aims very much complement Scholastic’s role as a provider of children’s books to support learning to read and reading for pleasure. We are very much looking forward to working with Jeremy and the team to provide many more opportunities to encourage children to develop a love of reading.”
Stallman, whose father set up the business 27 years ago, will continue to run the day-to-day businesses from the company headquarters in Lincolnshire. Mark Waudby will remain in place as general manager.
