Scottish independent publisher Findhorn Press has been acquired by US mind-body-spirit publisher Inner Traditions, also known as Bear & Co.
The indie, set up in 1971 in northeast Scotland, previously published under three different imprints: Findhorn; Camino Guides, which focused on guidebooks for pilgrims to Santiago de Compostela; and Earthdancer, focused on holistic healing.
Two of the imprints - Findhorn and Earthdance - will now continue under the new ownership of Vermont-based Inner Traditions, which claims to be one of the largest publishing houses in the world devoted exclusively to the subjects of spirituality, the occult, ancient mysteries, new science, holistic health and natural medicine with over 1,500 titles in print.
Findhorn Press' editorial director Sabine Weeke will be staying on and transferring with the sale. However the company's director, Thierry Bogliolo, 63, will not be moving over to Inner Traditions. He told The Bookseller he will now run the Camino Guides imprint exclusively under his newly-founded publishing house Kaminn Media Ltd.
The company only had two full-time members of staff prior to the sale (Weeke and Bogliolo) who operated from a “virtual office” since the physical Findhorn office closed in 2008.
Weeke commented: "At Findhorn Press we are excited about the possibilities this new venture brings to our authors and the Press as a whole. Inner Traditions, Bear & Company with their longstanding list and depth of editorial and marketing experience feel like the perfect match and next step in terms of development; we look forward to seeing our respective programs deepen and grow together.”
Inner Traditions will ship Findhorn Press backlist titles through its distributor Simon & Schuster from 1st January 2018. All Findhorn Press titles can be ordered as of 1st January 2018, from Inner Traditions’ distributor Simon & Schuster. The Spring 2018 Findhorn Press new titles will be released by Inner Traditions beginning in March 2018.
Kaminn Media, headed up by Bogliolo, will meanwhile continue to publish yearly editions of the popular guides beginning with 2018 versions of John Brierley's guidebooks A Pilgrim's Guide to the Camino de Santiago; A Pilgrim's Guide to the Camino Portugués; A Camino Pilgrim's Guide to Sarria - Santiago - Finisterre: including Múxia Circuit & Camino Inglés – 3 short routes to Santiago de Compostela; Camino de Santiago Maps; and Camino Portugués Maps. The Camino Guides will continue to be distributed by Deep Books in the UK and by Legato Publishers Group (Ingram Content Group) in the USA and Canada.
