The #Shardlakelistenathon went live this morning (Monday, 15th October), with a 20 minute audio extract from Tombland released via the Pan Macmillan soundcloud channel. Subsequently three further extracts will be released this week, one a day for consecutive days but the extracts are available for a limited time only. Each extract is introduced by Sansom’s publisher of 15 years, Maria Rejt, publisher at Mantle imprint, Pan Macmillan.
A pre-awareness content and advertising campaign has been running across the social channels of both Pan Macmillan and C J Sansom and the launch itself will be supported by a week of full social activity and advertising across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram as well as targeting the core audience through the Scottish author;s newsletter.
The latest instalment in the historical mystery series sees Shardlake in a new murder case on behalf of Lady Elizabeth, taking him to Norwich where he finds himself caught up in the midst of Kett’s rebellion during the peasant revolt of 1549. The deal was announced in May this year.
Rejt said: "We hope fans will enjoy these opening instalments of Shardlake’s latest case, his most sensitive and dangerous yet. And it will whet their appetite to listen or read on to discover exactly what lies in store for Matthew and his friends and how he can fulfill the Lady Elizabeth’s wishes to find a murderer whilst finding himself in extreme personal danger."
Sara Lloyd, digital and communications director at Pan Macmillan said: “What could be better than an extended sneak preview into the latest, richly imagined and thrilling Shardlake, all delivered directly into your ears by the marvellous Steven Crossley? With audio booming as a format, and knowing that listening provides a very powerful way for people to engage with a story or message, we’ve been working to create distinct promotional strategies for and with audio, and we’re excited to see how our epic Shardlake Listenathon goes down.”
