Kate Shaw has been appointed director of The Viney Agency in a move described as “the most significant development for the agency since it was founded in 2008”.
Literary agent Shaw will take up her directorship of the agency on 1st October 2017 and, at the same time, the agency name will change to The Viney Shaw Agency.
Charlie Viney, founder of The Viney Agency, said: “Since joining the agency in 2010, Kate has developed a brilliant roster of authors and proved a great colleague. She is rightly held in very high regard both by her clients and the publishing industry at large and I couldn’t be happier about this important development for us.”
Shaw said she was “thrilled” with the position and looked forward to helping to grow and develop the business over the next few years.
She added: “It is also great as a woman to get your name on the door. I think women can sometimes be shy in asking for these things. It has taken me a long time and I have been in this business for years.”
She added that the agency, for which Shaw and Viney are the only agents, valued its independence but was “optimistic” about the future.
The agency’s clients include Ben Kane, Chris Bradford, David Hepworth and Holly Smale.
