Canongate’s editorial director Simon Thorogood is leaving the publisher to go freelance after eight years at the company.
He will continue to work with Canongate, editing a range of forthcoming titles like Green Crime by Julia Shaw, The Fathers by John Niven and Nation of Strangers by Ece Temelkuran.
During Thorogood’s time at Canongate, particular highlights have included Waiting for the Last Bus by Richard Holloway, Madly, Deeply by Alan Rickman, The Expectation Effect by David Robson, The Art of Rest by Claudia Hammond, O Brother by John Niven and brother.do.you.love.me. by Manni and Reuben Coe.
“We wish Simon the very best for this next phase of his publishing career and are proud to announce that we have the great privilege of being his first freelancing client," said publisher Jenny Fry. "We’d like to say a huge thanks to him for eight excellent years of passion, professionalism and success, and look forward to continuing to work together."
Thorogood added: “I’m proud of the many titles I’ve worked on at Canongate, but am looking forward to this new venture. The first book I commissioned for Canongate was Amateur by Thomas Page McBee—still one of my favourites. Do look out for it as it is featured in the new series of ’Heartstopper’, which has just landed on Netflix.”
