Sinéad O’Connor's long-awaited and “revelatory” memoir Rememberings will be released by Penguin General imprint Sandycove in June 2021.
The book tells the story of the singer's fraught childhood, musical triumphs, struggles with illness and the power of song. With a cover image by legendary photographer Herb Ritts, it is released in hardback, e-book and audio on 3rd June 2021. Irish and British Commonwealth rights were originally signed by the imprint – then called Penguin Ireland – in 2014.
Sandycove explained: “In Remeberings, O’Connor recounts her painful tale of growing up in Dublin in a dysfunctional, abusive household. Inspired by her brother’s Bob Dylan records, she escaped into music. She relates her early years with local Irish bands, completing her first album while eight months' pregnant and soaring to unimaginable popularity with her cover of Prince’s 'Nothing Compares 2 U'.”
O'Connor said: “This is my story, as I remember it. I had great fun writing it over the past few years.”
O’Connor is an Irish singer-songwriter who rose to international fame in 1990 with her arrangement of Prince’s "Nothing Compares 2 U" and her critically acclaimed albums have won or been nominated for five Grammys.
Michael McLoughlin, publisher, added: “At Sandycove we are delighted and proud to reveal the cover of Sinéad’s book – an iconic cover for an iconic artist. Rememberings is a page-turning, honest and raw memoir, an extraordinary book by a truly original and authentic voice.”
