An "internal restructure" at Mantle has led to the redundacy of a senior editor on maternity leave, Sophie Orme.
Pan Macmillan released a statement yesterday in which it said Orme, a senior editor at Mantle Books, would "not be returning from maternity leave as a result of an internal restructure within Mantle which has led to the closure of the role of senior editor".
Orme tweeted this morning: "Sadly I won't be returning to Mantle or Pan Macmillan following my maternity leave as my role has been made redundant..."
She added: "I will miss the Mantle authors and my amazing Pan Mac colleagues, but I'm excited about future possibilities too".
Publisher for Macmillan Adult Books, Jeremy Trevathan, commented: "Sophie is a diligent, well-respected editor and has excellent working relationships with authors and agents. She has edited novels across several genres, from crime and thrillers to literary fiction. In addition to working alongside Maria on key Mantle titles, Sophie has also commissioned titles, including, most recently The Liar's Chair by Rebecca Whitney, which was selected for the Loose Women TV Book Club."
