Simon Spanton has joined Black & White Publishing in Edinburgh in the newly created role of non-fiction commissioning editor, working part-time.
In his new role, Spanton will be responsible for managing ongoing titles, alongside bringing forward ideas and developing new strands to their non-fiction publishing. Since leaving Gollancz in 2015, he has worked in a variety of roles, including at Unbound, Angry Robot and, most recently, Elliot & Thompson.
Campbell Brown, executive publisher at Black & White, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Simon to the team at Black & White in Edinburgh. His wide-ranging experience and keen eye for a good book is exactly what we need at the moment as we expand the list now that we’re part of Bonnier Books UK. Simon will be a brilliant addition to the team and we’re all very much looking forward to working with him.”
Spanton said: "With Black & White expanding their publishing I’m delighted to be able to join their team and further build on the depth and scope of my own non-fiction commissioning and editing.
“The opportunity to work on titles across nature writing, culture and popular history, whether with a Scottish focus or beyond, is one I relish. Being able to combine my existing work in genre fiction with two days a week devoted to working with the enthusiastic, welcoming and supportive folk at Black & White is a very exciting development for me."
