Spotify is launching Spotify for Authors, a new creator platform to give publishers and writers insights and analytics.
The streaming company offers similar tools to artists and podcasters, and the aim is to also give authors and publishers the same opportunities to reach new listeners and understand their existing audience.
Spotify has said that it worked alongside publishers to develop these tools. The new platform builds on Passport, a portal which enables publishers to manage their catalogue and access royalty statements.
Publishers will now get access to analytics to help them understand how listeners engage with their audiobooks, as well as the tools to grow their reach on the platform. They will also invite authors to access the new platform, giving them access to insights on age and gender demographics.
Authors will also be given access to codes to share royalty-free copies with reviewers, promo cards to generate social media assets and early access to the newly launched author profiles.
Spotify for Authors is available in all of Spotify’s markets. Publishers can already access it and invite their authors, while independent authors will get access through Spotify’s Findaway Voices platform early next year.
A Spotify spokesperson told The Bookseller: “We know Spotify can uniquely reimagine the audiobook format, and Spotify for Authors is one way we plan to do that – it’s a tool for all authors and publishers to help them better understand their audience on Spotify and grow their audience. Today’s launch is just the beginning, and we’ll continue to learn and iterate, but we believe we’re laying a very promising foundation that will enable our partners across the book industry to express themselves in ways they’ve never been able to before.”
