Simon & Schuster Children’s UK has struck a three-book deal in a major new middle-grade series by authors Katie and Kevin Tsang.
Rachel Denwood, m.d. at Simon & Schuster Children’s UK acquired UK & Commonwealth rights (excluding Canada) for three books from Claire Wilson at Rogers, Coleridge and White.
Dragon Mountain will be a lead launch for S&S, publishing in paperback original in autumn 2020 and backed by a major marketing and PR campaign. Books two and three in the series will follow in 2021 & 2022.
Katie and Kevin Tsang’s Dragon Mountain offers a "fresh and thrilling new take on the dragon adventure as an ensemble cast of contemporary kids opens a portal to the Dragon Realm only to discover they are the key to its survival – and to the safety of the human world", said the publisher.
Denwood said: "Katie and Kevin Tsang make my publisher’s heart sing: they are hugely talented and creative, infectiously passionate and enthusiastic. I am very proud they are my first S&S authors and so excited to work with them on this major new series. One of our biggest ambitions at Simon & Schuster Children’s UK is to build an industry leading fiction list bursting with the books that get kids hooked on reading – Dragon Mountain will sit proudly at the heart of our growth plans, and will be published with great energy, focus and excitement."
Katie Tsang said: "We are so happy to have found the perfect home for Dragon Mountain with Simon & Schuster and can't wait for it to be out in the world. We hope children love discovering the magic of Dragon Mountain."
Kevin Tsang added: "Katie and I had so much fun writing this book together. We were inspired by classic adventure stories as well as Chinese mythology, and of course, our love of dragons. This is exactly the kind of book I would have wanted to read as a kid."
The couple met in in 2008 while studying at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Since then they have lived on three different continents and travelled to over 40 countries together. Kevin was born in Copenhagen and grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. Katie was born and raised in Southern California and writes YA as Katherine Webber. Katie and Kevin are co-authors of the Sam Wu young fiction series, published by Egmont. They live in London with their daughter.
