Simon & Schuster (S&S) has promoted Assallah Tahir to editorial director on the adult non-fiction editorial team, stepping up from senior commissioning editor.
In her new role Tahir will report to Kris Doyle — who joined the company as deputy publishing director, adult non-fiction on 9th January 2023.
Tahir joined the company in January 2021 and her acquisitions include forthcoming debuts Tory Nation by Samuel Earle, The Face Race by Kashmir Hill, and All The Houses I’ve Ever Lived In by Kieran Yatesm which she bought in a “fiercely competitive” auction. Her authors include Laura Bates and David McWilliams.
Holly Harris, publishing director, non-fiction said: “Assallah is a star and we’re very excited by what she’s brought to S&S already. She has a brilliant eye and a distinctive style, and I can’t wait to see how she continues to build her list in this new role.”
Tahir said: ‘I’ve had a wonderful two years with the talented team at S&S and have loved working with brilliant writers on genres ranging from politics to memoir and popular science. I’m excited to be stepping into this new role and can’t wait to find more perspective-challenging and page-turning non-fiction."
