Simon and Schuster UK has promoted Chris White to editorial director, Scribner.
White joined the company in September 2018 as senior commissioning editor for Scribner, following 14-years at Waterstones as head of fiction and publisher liaison
Suzanne Baboneau, m.d. adult publishing, said: "Chris hit the ground sprinting. His first acquisition, in only his second week, was Chris Mullins’ The Friends of Harry Perkins, which has sold consistently well in hardcover since its timely publication in March of this year. It has been wonderful to see how quickly and effectively Chris has taken to the role of editor, instilling immediate confidence in authors and their agents and attracting a wide variety of excellent submissions. Scribner looks set for an exciting and rich future. We have great ambitions for Scribner UK, working closely, too, with our colleagues in the US, Australia and India, and every confidence that Chris will continue to be instrumental to its success."
White, who takes on the role immediately, said: "The last year has been a wonderful whirlwind. Working on the Scribner list in the UK has been the most thrillingly invigorating experience of my life. We've published some exceptional books in 2019 and 2020 is shaping up to be our best year yet. I’m enormously lucky to work with such a lovely, talented, supportive and tolerant bunch of people at Simon & Schuster without whom I would never have survived the transition from bookselling into publishing. Thanks to them and our fabulous authors, Scribner’s future looks bright and I’m looking forward to seeing the list blossom further over the coming months and years."
