Author Stephenie Meyer has confirmed the imminent publication of Midnight Sun, a new title in the Twilight series.
Meyer announced the book on social media today; it will be published by Atom and Little, an imprint of Little, Brown Book Group UK, in tandem with Hachette Book Group USA and Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, and will be out in August.
The book draws on“on the classic myth of Hades and Persephone," and tells the love story from vampire Edward Cullen's point of view.
“It feels strange to be making this announcement when the world is suffering through a pandemic, and no one really knows what’s next," said Meyer. "I thought seriously about delaying this announcement until things were back to normal; however, that felt wrong, considering how long those who are eager for this book have already waited."
Meyer put the project on hold in 2008 after the manuscript was leaked online, and had said she would never write about the world of Twilight again.
"I know how much I personally need distractions right now, how much I need something to look forward to, and most of all, how much I need more books to read. So, I hope this book gives my readers a little pleasure to anticipate and, after it arrives, a chance to live in an imaginary world for a while. I can’t express how much I appreciate the patience of my readers, and their support over the years it took to finish Midnight Sun,” she added.
The Twilight series has sold 10 million books for £60.2m in the UK, with Eclipse the bestseller at 1.9 million copies sold in paperback.
Each title in the original saga has topped a million copies apiece in paperback format, with novella The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner selling an additional 509,749 copies in hardback in 2010.
Meyer also published a gender swapped version of Twilight titled Life and Death, which sold 35,581 copies in hardback and 12,905 in paperback. She has also written spy novels The Chemist and The Host.
Midnight Sun will be available in hardback and e-book on 4th August, as well as an audio edition by Hachette Audio.
