DK has restructured its international publishing and licensing teams, creating new senior roles in a raft of promotions and hires, as part of a broader strategy to invest in international growth and content rights.
Under the leadership of Nina Scales, IPL director of DK, the extensive restructure includes an increased headcount and the creation of four senior roles. Elsa Vicente, based in Barcelona, has been promoted to lead the newly created DK Español division in the role of head of publishing, responsible for the implementation of DK’s “ambitious expansion of Spanish-language and bilingual publishing, targeting growth in Spain, the US and Latin America markets”.
Scales said: “Spanish language is such an exciting growth area for us. In partnership with PRH, Grupo Editorial, the time is right for us to meaningfully grow our business in these exciting and diverse markets."
Nicola Robertson is appointed to the new role of head of international rights, responsible for expanding DK’s reach in major translation markets across Europe and Latin America, ensuring authors reach as broad an audience as possible.
Toby Hopkins, content licensing director, moves into the IPL team, expanding his responsibilities to a global remit. Caroline Purslow continues her role as sales director for Asia, where she leads DK’s growing business in the region.
Barbara Bognolo now heads the newly centralised English-language global export team, adding responsibility for Australia, India, South Africa and Germany to the team’s current remit of Europe, the Middle East and Latin America. Tasked with expanding the reach of authors, she will also help grow DK Learning globally by increasing the agent and affiliate network.
Angelika Dunsmore takes on the role of head of business operations and special projects. This new role underpins the new structure of the team, and her vast knowledge of international markets will ensure DK remains agile and delivers on the priority list, the publisher said.
Scales commented: “With this new senior team in place, I’m confident that we are now well-positioned to strengthen DK’s international platform, drive strong growth and maximise our opportunities for sales in overseas markets. I am incredibly proud of this talented and experienced team, and look forward to reaching new audiences and expanding our reach globally.”
Scales now reports to Paul Kelly, co-chief executive, who said: “This is such an exciting time for DK. We have experienced incredible growth over 2021 and 2022 so far, and this restructure is part of our wider ambition to invest in new growth areas for DK.
“As a global publisher, our international teams are a fundamental part of our success. With Nina’s incredible energy and experience in leading high-performing teams, we are well-placed to serve more readers in more languages across the world.”
