Yale University Press London has appointed Stuart Weir in the newly created role of production director, overseeing editorial, production and design for all London-originated titles.
Weir was previously production director at I B Tauris and joins Yale from Portland Press, where he is publishing operations manager.
The two current production departments at YUPL—Trade/Academic and Art/Architecture—will now merge under his leadership. No job losses are involved in this development, YUPL confirmed.
Heather McCallum, m.d. of Yale London, said: "We are really delighted to welcome Stuart Weir to the Yale University Press London team. Stuart brings us cutting-edge knowledge and experience in design, production and operations across Art, Trade and Academic books—making him an almost unique fit for YUPL. Stuart shares our commitment to excellence and world class publishing. In this newly created role I am sure that he will quickly make his mark, enabling us to move forward with a number of key initiatives across these areas at this time of unprecedented change."
Weir said he was "keen to apply all my experience of book production to this exciting new role to help Yale University Press confront the particular challenges that the industry is facing in 2020 and beyond."
Weir will join YUPL in late June.
