The Baillie Gifford Prize for Non-Fiction has announced that Frederick Studemann, literary editor of the Financial Times (FT), will chair the judging panel for the 2023 award.
The announcement coincides with the opening of submissions for this year’s prize, which aims to celebrate the best of non-fiction. Publishers will have until 17th June to enter up to three non-fiction books per imprint with publication dates between 1st November 2022 and 31st October 2023.
Studemann will join a panel of judges to determine the winner, who will be announced on 16th November 2023, following the shortlist announcement in October and longlist in September. He joined the FT in 1996 as Berlin correspondent and has since held a number of roles across the paper, including assistant news editor, UK correspondent, European news editor, comment & analysis editor and assistant editor. He was a founding member of FT Deutschland, where he ran the features and weekend section.
Studemann is currently on the judging panel for The International Booker Prize 2023, which he will have completed by the time judging for The Baillie Gifford Prize for Non-Fiction 2023 begins.
In addition to the 2023 prize, the Baillie Gifford Prize is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year with a one-off award that recognises the outstanding work of the previous 24 prizewinners. More information can be found at www.thebailliegiffordprize.co.uk/year-by-year/25th-anniversary.
