Jasper Sutcliffe has been promoted to head of business development at Bookshop.org, with immediate effect.
The promotion comes in recognition of “all of Sutcliffe’s contributions over the past two years, particularly his building Bookshop.org’s advertising business from scratch, building strong publisher and affiliate relationships and playing a key role in the platform’s commercial development broadly,” the online retailer said.
It added: “He has been the driving force behind many of Bookshop.org’s key industry partnerships, including The Booker Prize Foundation, Hay Festival and Stylist. In addition to forming meaningful relationships with publishers and non-bookshop affiliates, he has been instrumental in the development of Bookshop.org’s ‘Book of the Month’ programme, with titles including The Story of Art Without Men (Hutchinson Heinemann) by Katy Hessel (September), Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow (Chatto & Windus) by Gabrielle Zevin (July) and Young Mungo (Picador) by Douglas Stuart (April).”
Sutcliffe joined the platform in its early stages with the role of publisher and affiliate manager. Prior to Bookshop.org he worked for 20 years at Foyles. He said: “The past two years have truly been some of the most inspiring of my bookselling career. Bookshop.org has given me the opportunity to work with such dedicated people from across the bookselling and publishing industries, and I’m really excited to develop these partnerships further in my new role.”
Nicole Vanderbilt, managing director, added: “We couldn’t be more grateful to have Jasper on the team. He’s been both instrumental to the development of the business and a complete delight with which to work. As we build the business further, we are delighted to have Jasper in this new role.”
