Leicester-based independent publisher Sweet Cherry is launching the Pages Ahead initiative to give independent bookshops and libraries a competitive advantage by allowing them to sell its titles one month ahead of larger retailers and online sellers.
By offering exclusive early access to its exciting new titles, the publisher aims to help indie bookshops and libraries “thrive in a challenging economic landscape”. The publisher will also work with shops and libraries to amplify the message through social media, press features, local events, author partnerships, giveaways and promotions.
Sanjee de Silva, the publisher at Sweet Cherry, said that the independent publisher is giving participating organisations “the chance to shine by providing exclusive access to our books before anyone else”.
Every Cherry – Sweet Cherry’s new imprint focused on accessible reading materials for the SEND (special educational needs and disabilities) community – will also feature prominently in the initiative. According to Sweet Cherry, indie bookstores and libraries will have priority access to Every Cherry’s inclusive titles, with the aim of “strengthening their role as inclusive spaces for readers of all abilities”.
