The Society of Young Publishers (SYP) annual Autumn Conference will take place on Saturday 2nd December 2023 at Oxford Brookes University, exploring the theme Sustainable Futures.
The event will include a blend of panel discussions and workshops that will look towards new and growing influences on the publishing industry, such as audio publishing and AI, as well as exploring the evolution of sustainable initiatives within the sector and the workplace. Industry experts will share advice on entering the realm of publishing, with particular consideration for balancing careers with wellbeing. There will also be a careers clinic with recruitment specialists, an inspiring keynote speaker and a post-conference reception.
SYP Oxford co-chair, Sophie Shepherd, said: “We are excited to bring the autumn conference back to Oxford, offering publishing hopefuls, junior professionals and industry experts to speak about the current landscape and the future of the publishing industry. Our chosen theme will cover current issues the industry is facing, while also providing sessions that will practically help people in their job search and career progression.”
Early bird tickets, starting from £20, were released on Monday 18th September and will be available until 29th October. After this date, general release tickets will be available, with discounts for under-25s and SYP members. More information is available here.
Alisha Raggatt, SYP Oxford co-chair, said: “Each year the annual SYP conference has a theme that helps the event to form its own identity. This year we’ve decided to opt for ‘Sustainable Futures’ as our theme. We will cover topics from the rise in AI in literary creation to how companies aim to take care of their employees’ mental health. We’re all feeling inspired by the diversity of avenues this theme opens up to us on the committee, and can’t wait to watch it inspire our ticket holders and speakers too.”
