Tariq Goddard is stepping down as publisher of both Zer0 Books and Repeater Books, the two independent imprints he founded.
A spokesperson for Collective Ink told The Bookseller: “After 17 years of being a publisher, Tariq is taking some time out and writing two new books, a novella, and his first non-fiction title, before looking for a new opportunity within publishing.”
Goddard started Zer0 Books in 2007 to be a contemporary culture imprint within John Hunt Publishing, now Collective Ink, aiming to be “intellectual without being academic, and popular without being populist” the spokesperson said. In 2014 he founded Repeater Books for Watkins Media and continued to discover new challenging voices.
Zer0 and Repeater publish books across the cultural spectrum including exploring themes of feminism, music and philosophy.
“Goddard helped launch the writing careers of authors including Mark Fisher, Eugene Thacker, Owen Hatherley and Grace Blakeley,” the spokesperson said. “He also worked with more established names including the actor Terence Stamp, cultural historian Patrick Wright and the American philosopher Graham Harman, who were drawn to the imprints reputation for collaborating closely with authors.”
Goddard has worked on books which have been recognised by awards such as Architectural Book of the Year, Bread and Flowers Award, Stonewall Book Award, Orwell Prize for Books, Best Music Journalist of the Year Award, Polari First Book Prize, Lord Aberdare Prize and the Independent Publishers Award for Literary Fiction.
