Eleanor Teasdale has been promoted to the role of publisher at Angry Robot, as Gemma Creffield becomes commissioning editor.
Both Teasdale and Creffield step into new positions as the Watkins Media sci-fi and fantasy imprint expands, teasing an as-yet-undivulged project due to be unveiled later in the year.
Teasdale joined Angry Robot in 2019 as commissioning editor, and was shortlisted for IPG Young Publisher of The Year. Owner and m.d. of Watkins Media Etan Ilfeld said: "Eleanor has done a phenomenal job leading the team at Angry Robot and commissioning bestselling titles such as The Cabinet and The Coward. I’m also very excited about her launching our Top-Secret project this summer and continuing to grow Angry Robot.”
Teasdale added: “I’m so happy to be stepping up to publisher at Angry Robot. I have a fantastic team working with me directly and I count our authors as among the most interesting and talented writers working in SFF writing today. Our list proudly and regularly crosses geographical, figurative, mythological and atmospheric borders; celebrates diverse stories; and explores extraordinary emotional journeys. I’m so looking forward to sharing some of our exciting upcoming acquisitions as well as some Top-Secret news later on this year”.
Creffield moves up from managing editor to commissioning editor. She started her publishing career as a publicity assistant for Watkins Publishing. After joining Angry Robot in 2019, she helped restructure the imprint’s editorial and publicity systems as well as editing several books on the list and commissioning several debuts of her own – including the upcoming fantasy novel by TikTokker Stacey McEwan (@stacebookspace), Ledge, which releases on 13th September.
“Gemma has been invaluable to the imprint with a sharp eye for commercial and brilliant SFF," Teasdale said. "I’m so pleased to be celebrating her achievements with this promotion and look forward to seeing all the wonderful ways she will grow the Angry Robot list in her new role.”
The news comes after the imprint reported a "hugely successful 2021", which saw the launch of a new logo and rebrand, as well as an upgraded website enabling the direct sale of physical books.
