Orion has appointed Fourth Estate’s Lindsay Terrell (pictured) to the newly created position of head of brand to lead on the strategy for Orion’s authors, imprints and communities, while Ellen Turner has been promoted.
Terrell will take up her role as head of brand in the communications team on 17th February. She will be based in Hachette’s Edinburgh office and will report to campaigns director Tom Noble.
Orion said of the newly created role: “As the department continues to evolve as a combined, integrated communications team, this pivotal role will be central to the growth and innovation for imprints such as Gollancz and White Rabbit, as well as investing in the branding and positioning of Orion’s publishing to further develop and continue delivering a holistic, 360-degree approach to campaigns.”
She joins from Fourth Estate where she is currently senior marketing manager and has worked on campaigns for authors such as Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Max Hastings and Andrew Marr, as well as being a leading member in the team behind the headline-grabbing launch for Hilary Mantel’s The Mirror and the Light. At the most recent Book Marketing Society awards, she won an audience development spotlight prize for her work on Cloud Cuckoo Land by Anthony Doerr, with the judges saying "we were so impressed by their reader insight and targeting, as well as her willingness and determination to learn from the campaign itself".
Previously she worked as a campaigns manager for Penguin General, developing and implementing campaigns for authors such as John le Carré, Arundhati Roy, Ali Smith, Marlon James and William Boyd. She’s also held roles at Faber & Faber and Canongate and will bring more than 10 years of experience to the role.
Noble said: “At Orion we are constantly seeking to better understand our consumers, reach new readers and create the most striking, original and successful campaigns. As we become more and more ambitious with our publishing, now is the perfect time to welcome someone with Lindsay’s highly impressive skills and experience. We know she’ll make a valuable addition to our team and enable us to continue innovating and delivering the very best results for our authors.”
Terrell commented: “I'm absolutely delighted to be joining the dynamic communications team at Orion. The breadth of the list, the flair of the publishing and the creativity that comes through in their campaigns time and again all make this an incredibly exciting opportunity.”
Meanwhile Turner (pictured right) has been promoted to publicity manager with immediate effect.
Turner joined as press officer in August 2020 and has been responsible for dynamic campaigns for What’s Mine Is Yours by Naima Coster, Simon Garfield’s Dog’s Best Friend and recognised for her work on Accidentally Wes Anderson with two PPC shortlistings. Recently her work on Best Wishes, Warmest Regards saw her lead a last-minute UK media schedule with Dan Levy and work with FANE Productions to deliver a sold-out event.
