Thames & Hudson has revealed the launch list for its new imprint specialising in books and gifts, focusing on creative and lifestyle subjects.
Skittledog, which is named after a spiny dogfish, will launch in March 2023, helmed by publisher Zara Larcombe. The imprint will kick off with Join the Dogs!: Satisfyingly Difficult Dot-to-Dot Puzzles, the first in a series of mindful dot-to-dot books.
The season’s lead title, Yoga for Stiff Birds, is by Marion Deuchars, and encourages readers of all ages to try yoga and to stretch. Other titles include How to Train Your Skateboard, and Leila Duly’s Beautiful Planet: An Intricate Coloring Book.
The season’s other activity books aimed at creative hobbyists are inspired by traditional crafts and include Linocut: Learn in a Weekend, Cut Up This Book and Create Your Own Wonderland, which provides 1,000 images to cut out and turn into collages.
Finally, circular puzzle books Forest Dream: A Flow State Jigsaw Puzzle and Reef Dream: A Flow State Jigsaw Puzzle will also be released under the imprint.
The imprint’s name Skittledog was chosen for its “playfulness and contemporary qualities”. Creative director Angus Hyland said: “Skittle-dog is the colloquial name for the spiny dogfish, the seriously undersized shark sometimes found swimming around the base of Brighton Palace Pier, and positions the imprint as a second cousin to the regal dolphins in the T&H logo. Skittledog’s own logo was drawn up to spell out the initial, while also creating a symbol emblematic of craft and character with a touch of edginess.”
