Publisher Thames & Hudson is set to move into a new office space at King’s Cross after 25 years at its High Holborn office. The publisher will relocate into a former gallery space at 6–24 Britannia Street, King’s Cross, in early 2025. The company has been in its current location at 181A High Holborn since 1999.
For the last 20 years 6–24 Britannia Street has been home to the Gagosian Gallery, and has been recently renovated by Stirling Prize-winning architectural studio Stanton Williams and delivered by Virtus Contracts. The new office has a bespoke interior fit out specifically for Thames & Hudson and has been developed through a partnership with Virtus and MarshKeene Architects. The design palette references the Thames & Hudson dolphins tile mosaic that has travelled with the company across previous office moves and which will be displayed in the new reception area.
Thames & Hudson staff include desk editors, picture researchers, photographers, and highly experienced design and production teams, and the new offices "have been created to enable and encourage greater collaboration and flow between all departments". The new office is open-plan and accessible and includes breakout booths, meeting rooms and an adaptable collaboration zone which can be used for events, alongside a large new kitchen area and an outdoor courtyard.
Thames & Hudson also has its own French distribution company, Interart, and partners with European galleries, museums and fashion houses alongside numerous other creative business alliances.
Chief executive Sophy Thompson said: "This year marked 75 years since the founding of Thames & Hudson, and the last 25 of those years have been successfully spent at 181A High Holborn. Now feels the right time to embrace a vibrant new work environment, and the company’s move into a former gallery space is a fitting evolution for a publisher with strong links to the visual arts. The company has seen its revenues double over the past seven years, and we are pleased to be investing in our future as we look ahead to the next 75 years."
