"The Big Scottish Book Club" is returning to BBC Scotland and BBC iPlayer tomorrow, with the first episode featuring poet Jackie Kay, comic and writer Julian Clary and author Elif Shafak.
The first episode, which airs tomorrow (Wednesday, 28th August) at 7.30pm, will also feature Alan Cumming and Forbes Masson as they revisit Victor and Barry.
The new six-part series, hosted by author Damian Barr, was recorded at the Edinburgh International Book Festival (EIBF) with live audiences at Leith Theatre.
Other guests set to feature include Amy Liptrot, Chris Brookmyre, Andrew O’Hagan, Jackie Kay, Hugo Rifkind, Sara Sheridan, Sarah Perry, Naomi Alderman, Nikesh Shukla and Rebecca F Kuang.
As well as guests in discussion with Barr, the series will also feature specially filmed reports from the EIBF and Len Pennie doing a reading from her new book Poyums.
Barr said: "I’m so excited about this new series and our line-up. There really is something for everyone and I’ve got so many questions for our writers! Julian Clary will be a treat, no doubt—the iconic comedian is now also an author of children’s books. Another of our amazing signings for this series is Amy Liptrot—I will never forget her memoir Outrun. She is having a major festival ‘moment’ this year with the movie of her book premiering as the opening film of the Edinburgh International Film Festival and the play having its premiere at the Edinburgh International Festival. I have always wanted to interview Elif Shafak who is one of the world’s finest writers and deepest thinkers—her latest novel is a future classic.
"We will also be joined by some very enthusiastic and very well-known readers from the entertainment world, talking about their latest literary loves. We will also be talking adaptations, podcasts, comedy and theatre—stories of all kinds!
"The Big Scottish Book Club continues to celebrate readers and writers and shows that stories are for everybody. I’m delighted that we are back for an amazing sixth series and want to thank everybody for watching and sharing the show."
The Big Scottish Book Club, which is produced by IWC Media (a Banijay UK company), starts on BBC Scotland and BBC iPlayer on August 28.
